DIY Gold Dipped Bridesmaid’s Necklaces

IMG_7211 (1)

These are the necklaces I made for my Bridesmaids! Each girl was given a special hand picked stone or crystal pendant. If you know anything about me… you will know that I LOVE creating beautiful things. SO, I had to think really creatively when it came to my bridesmaid’s gifts. When I searched on Pinterest for ‘bridesmaids gifts’ all I was seeing was a bunch of useless things that said “Bridesmaid” on them (mugs, robes, wine glasses). To me, these things would never be cherished and just screamed, “You’re all the same to me.’ ‘Your personalities aren’t why I wanted you in my wedding!”

So, I was really stressing for a long time about what I would get them all. My friends are all so different from each other… I really wanted to show them that I care about them individually and I care about their personal lives… When all of the sudden it hit me! Just like birth signs there are stones/crystals that mirror our lives. So I did a little research and found this awesome stone community. I chose each stone/crystal for a bridesmaid based upon what is going on in her personal life! 🙂 They loved these necklaces so much. I even got a few tears from them. ❤

What you will need

  • The Stones- I firstly found the stones and crystals from this awesome website They have great prices and truly wonderful inventory! 🙂 If you purchase anything from there tell Diane that Katie Ruiz sent you. She and I have been communicating the last few months. She has so many different sizes and she gives you a lot of information about your stone/crystal.

Needed tools and Materials:

1. Firstly you will want to glue your jump rings onto your stone. Unless you purchased a stone that already had a jump ring drilled into it. I know you are wondering if this glue will hold… I wondered the same thing. So far so GREAT. E6000 glue is seriously awesome. It is used to glue on car accessory parts. It has great give and elasticity. You will want to put down a small bead of glue where you would like your loop to be located. Allow the glue to become tacky before you place the ring into it. It takes a few moments.

2. Place the jump ring into the tacky bead of glue and hold it in place (use your pliers to hold in place if you are struggling to use your fingers). You will have to hold the jump ring in place until it stands straight on its own. Be sure you submerge the base of your jump ring into the bead of glue.

3. Once all of your stones have their jump rings. allow them to sit and cure. I waited 24 hours for my glue to cure. I supposed that the longer it sits the better.

4. Now that your glue has cured it is time to begin gold leafing. The gold leafing is completely up to you. If you prefer your stone to just be as it is.. please do so :). You will now want to grab your small paint brush and your adhesive. Paint the adhesive over the areas on your stone that you would like to place gold. Open up your loose gold leafing and choose whatever pieces you think are the prettiest and will fit your shape the best. I found that using my fingers to place the gold leaf worked really nicely. But, feel free to try and place the gold leafing with your paint brush. If you would like you can even layer on more gold to get your desired look.

5. Allow your adhesive to sit and dry. I gave mine about 30 minutes. Now, because the gold leaf we purchased is not 100% gold it will oxidate if we do not use a sealer. When the gold oxidates it turns an ugly orange-brown color… yuck! So, since we don’t want that, open your sealer and paint over your dried gold leafing. Do not worry about the adhesive & sealer going on ‘white.’ They will both dry a crystal clear.

6. Allow your stones to dry. Give them as much time as you feel comfortable. It shouldn’t take too long.. but if you are like me.. the longer you wait.. the safer haha.

7. Run your gold chain through your jump loop and you are all done!! Enjoy your new Necklace!! I found this made a really personal and timeless gift for my dearest bridesmaids. It would also make a great gift for mothers and sisters. 🙂 Have fun ❤

Now, whether you believe that stones and crystals have energy or not, everyone has to agree that they are stunningly beautiful!! Here are the descriptions of the stones I gave my girls. I also made them personal cards for each necklace (slide show of cards at the bottom.)
